The primary forest of Ankazomivady near Ambositra and his   Lemurs are endangered.

The forest of Ankazomivady is lying between the rural districts of Ambalamanakana and Ambafitorahana, in the district of Ambositra situated in the region of Amoron' i Mania center of Madagascar. This forest has the peculiarity to be one of the last forests natural of the Tops-trays and the first one which we can meet by going southward from Antananarivo. The inventory made by the team of the ESSA-Forêts before 2003 allowed to identify 3 species of lemurs among which a diurnal, Eulemur fulvus rufus and night-two, Microcebus rufus and Cheirogaleus major. It is a wet dense natural forest of high height that had a surface of 1600 ha in 2006 during the transfer of management between the forest Administration and the VOI ( rustic Lovantsikaniala association) which had made a commitment to manage this forest in a long-lasting way. At this date it rest about 600 hectares.

The problem of this forest is already at that time, the cutting, the manufacturing of illicit charcoal as well as the clearing and the "tavy" (fires(lights) of bush) and recently the total deforestration for geranium planting (200 hectares).

The progressive degradation of the natural environment is already at a late stage and has for main cause the weakness of the standard of living of the side population, corruption and the low(weak) economic development of the peripheral zones. The total disappearance of this forest will result in a lack of wooden resources and in local medicine, will stress the drought which increases every year and will be a loss furthermore for the biodiversity.
